The Christmas story begins with the Annunciation.
God sent an angel to Mary. The angel said that she was going to give birth to a baby, God's son, and name him Jesus. Mary was engaged to marry Joseph, the carpenter. Joseph was worried when he found out that Mary was expecting a baby. But an angel appeared to him and told him not to be afraid to have Mary as his wife.
At that time Ceaser Augustus wanted to have a list of all the people in the empire, to make sure they paid their taxes. All people had to return to the town where their families originally came from, and enter their names in the census there.
So Joseph and Mary went to Betlehem, where they had problems finding somewhere to stay. So they stayed in a stable and that is where Jesus, the Saviour was born. He was put in a manger which served as his first bed.
